“After 48 years of jazz brilliance, Pete Allen proves the magic is still alive. Newbury swung to his anniversary concert — now the beat rolls on at the Bowlers Arms, 1st November & 6th December.”
Newbury, 24 October 2026 — The President’s Room at Falkland Cricket Club was transformed into a haven of swinging rhythms and soulful melodies last night, as legendary clarinetist Pete Allen marked his 48th Anniversary Concert with an unforgettable evening of traditional jazz.
The event drew a packed house of jazz lovers eager to celebrate nearly half a century of Allen’s musical journey. Leading his renowned Pete Allen Jazz Band, Allen delivered a performance brimming with warmth, virtuosity, and the kind of effortless charm that has made him a fixture on the British jazz scene since the late 1970s.
Adding to the magic were special guests The Ben Holder Trio, whose energetic violin-led swing brought a fresh sparkle to the night, and pianist Mike Denham, whose elegant stride and ragtime flourishes provided a perfect counterpoint to Allen’s clarinet. Together, the ensembles created a rich tapestry of sound — from toe-tapping Dixieland to soulful ballads — that had the audience smiling, swaying, and applauding with gusto.
Between numbers, Allen shared anecdotes from his career, recalling early gigs, memorable tours, and the friendships forged through music. His easy rapport with both fellow musicians and the crowd underscored why he remains one of the UK’s most beloved jazz ambassadors.
It was more than just a concert; it was a celebration of tradition, talent, and the enduring spirit of live music.
